A report from Telemark Tip's Alaska Ski and Snow Conditions discussion thread:

Hey Bill,

The people up at Sheep Camp said that there was a huge slide that came down near the Chilkoot Pass late in the afternoon. Lots of layers up there on White Pass but it should be fairly stable in the morning. I was just up their this afternoon working along side the road and it was warm and soggy but I didn't see any new slides. The light was flat though so I'm hoping for a sunnier day this weekend so we can see the transition on the snow. In another month the lakes might be open enough for you to come up and do some windboarding. It was snowing in whitehorse last weekend though with no sign of spring yet on the plants. Stephen

Our reply:

Hey Gladesman, thanks for the Skagway area report. Yeah, I'd watch those layers for a while unless it's the morning after a hard freeze. If big stuff is coming loose up on the Chilkoot, it means it's thawing and more such slides are likely. I'd guess that cornices are dropping there too given the temps in the last week.
