The slide in the Argenta slide path was triggered by explosive avalanche control for Big Cottonwood Canyon. It broke near the summit of Kessler Peak on a northwest facing slope at 10.300'. The avalanche descended these steep cliffs onto the main part of the Argenta slide path. Only the steep, cliffy area ran and not the rest of the bowl. The avalanche broke with an average fracture depth of 3 feet but one section broke up to 5 feet deep and the avalanche was about 200 feet wide. It ran on the weak faceted snow formed during the January dry spell.
