COURSE SCHEDULE,
LEVEL 2 TWO WEEKEND COURSE
Our Level 2 courses are full 4-day, 45-hour courses that exceed the American Avalanche Association curriculum guidelines and follow all applicable US and international standards. We follow the US standard AAA observation guidelines. This schedule includes 4 full field days and 4 full evenings of classroom sessions.
FIRST WEEKEND, FRIDAY EVENING CLASSROOM
CHECK-IN 6:30 - 7:00 at downtown fire hall classroom (across from the Federal building, enter on the back side from the parking lot, front door is locked at night)
INTRODUCTIONS (20 min, to 7:20pm)
OVERVIEW OF ADVANCED AVALANCHE STUDY (25 min, to 7:45pm), break
RESCUE FOR LEADERS (45 minutes, to 8:40pm) - Review, update, leadership role, organization.
FORECASTING EXERCISE (45 minutes, 9:35pm)
ANNOUNCEMENTS (10 minutes, to 9:45pm)
FIRST WEEKEND, SATURDAY
FIELD SESSION
Meet 8am lower Eaglecrest parking lot near lodge, inside E lodge doorway if nasty.
Climb to rescue field area, arrive about 9am.
RESCUE FOR LEADERS: Review, update, flux line mapping, teaching beacon search to others, probe line setup, timed practices, lunch, leadership, organization, advanced drills & scenarios. (5 hours)
SNOW SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS SETUP I (2 hours) These are the ongoing projects which we will check on later field trips. We will start setting them up as time permits.
DESCENT at about 4:00pm (<1 hour)
DINNER BREAK (30 min; nominally 5 to 5:30pm) - dinner at day lodge by preorder

METAMORPHISM FOR AVALANCHE FORECASTING (45 minutes, until 6:30pm), break

FIELD SNOW STUDY TECHNIQUES & INVESTIGATIONS (4 hours)
DESCENT at about 3:45pm (1 hour plus, timing depends on darkness, headlamps mandatory)

FIELD NOTES WRAPUP: FIELD BOOKS, POLAR DIAGRAMS, & WEATHER RECORDS (45 min, until 5:45pm)
