11-30-04 Eaglecrest E Bowl Chutes, Middle Chute

Clean, fast, and deep shears at number 5 (second, harder jump) on 40°, yet no avalanche activity. We suspect that the moist snow is not as sensitive to loading and thaw as drier snow would be. It is still worth keeping an eye on the bond between last week's still frozen rain crust and all the new snow from this week.

We are trying a slightly smaller format to reduce loading time for these pages. It should also require less scrolling to see all of the snow profile.

High density slushy new snow with variably breakable crust under it made for challenging skiing today. The snow level dropped as low as 350m overnight, but hovered between 550 and 600m today as an occluded front moved through. It was snowing but wet here at 750m. We are still building a good base with more snow up high though, and the cooler weather forecast for the weekend may bring good surface conditions again.
