The cycle of mostly cornice-triggered wet slabs is continuing regionwide. There was a large one within the last week in Icy Gulch up Perseverance Trail. It broke a good 1 - 2 m deep by 150 m wide and reached very close to the bottom of the runout zone. We noted another one on the north face of Mt. Juneau yesterday afternoon, about 30-50 cm deep and 100m wide.

A large avalanche hit the White Pass and Yukon Railroad tracks north of Skagway late yesterday afternoon. No trains were hit, there were no injuries or track damage, and the starting zone cleaned out well enough that they feel there is no remnant danger on the path. Details are here.

This cycle is unlikely to affect the developed areas near Juneau, but poses a serious danger to backcountry travelers, especially summertime hikers and tourists. Some of these slides are running to valley level amid the new greenery where most hikers are not likely to be thinking of danger from avalanches.
