Text Box: The two snowboarders left the Brighton ski resort and walked up the ridge toward Pioneer Peak where one of them accidentally had a cornice break off underneath him which then triggered a slab avalanche that carried him down the slope.

Text Box: Judging by the size of the debris pile which was around 4 to 5 feet deep, the slab that the cornice triggered must have been pretty big and probably covered much of the rock that was exposed.  With out the impact of the very large cornice, this avalanche probably would not have released under just the weight of a person.
