DESCRIPTION: These are phots from an avalanche incident on Box Elder Peak, Wasatch Range, Utah in which one person was caught and carried nearly 2,000 vertical feet. He had some bruises but was otherwise OK. Two other parties skied it just before but luckily they had pulled off to the side at mid track when the victim triggered the avalanche. Two other people were with the victim and they were on top when he triggered the avalanche. They immediately descended to do a beacon search. This is a veiw of Box Elder Peak from near Snowbird on Twin Peaks from an earlier time. The avalanche came from near the summit and descended the big, steep, northeast face of Box Elder. It descended another 1000 vertical feet below where we can see in this photo.
