Text Box: 2-12-08, Observations-other wind slabs

As you can see by this picture of Rattlesnake Canyon in the Wellsville Mountain Wilderness, last week's wind formed some major drifts in exposed terrain.

Here's a close up showing a crown from a fairly recent wind slab on a south facing slope at around 8000' in elevation.

An observer sent in this shot from Sunday of a small wind slab release in Hell's Kitchen near Steam Mill Peak.  The ~1' deep by ~50' wide avalanche is on a northeast facing slope at just under 9000' in elevation.

A broad and deep slab was either snowmobile triggered or it naturally released sometime in the last few days on the bench above Richmond.   I think this is on a northwest facing slope at around 5500' in elevation.
