Even though it stopped snowing and the sun came out, strong west winds continued to drift the fresh powder.
Wind loading and lots of fresh new snow are red flags indicating potential avalanches.
We also noticed evidence of a few natural wind slab avalanches on steep slopes from overnight or earlier in the morning.
Dropping a small cornice on Boiler Bowl proved a good slope test. The small avalanche ran ~400 vrt' to the flats below the bowl.
We felt comfortable since the weight of the new snow avalanche did not initiate anything else, especially something deeper and more destructive.
Later, I triggered this 40' wide by 1'+ deep wind slab with a cornice drop.
The stiffening slab chunks ran fairly far through the trees (terrain traps) below.
Today's wind slabs were pretty soft, but if the wind continues tonight and tomorrow wind slabs will be harder and deeper.
Needless to say we found some pretty good powder conditions considering that its the end of March.
