Frost Crystals (Surface Hoar)

                                Feathery frost crystals might become a future weak layer.

                                   The shimmering frost or surface hoar makes a high pitched, cascading noise when you move through it.

                 Both the frost crystals on the surface and the faceted snow just under the surface are potential weak layers if they are buried intact.
