Wood Camp 1-24-06

New snow blankets the deposition from a large natural avalanche, which occurred overnight 1-2+3-06. After running well over 2000 vertical feet, the avalanche filled the bottom of Wood Camp Hollow, stopping right at the base of Sousi's Ridge.

With the first warming in some time, the fresh new snow on sunny slopes became prone to moist point-release avalanching.

During the past few clear and cold nights, conditions were perfect for surface snow re-crystallization and the formation of feathery frost crystals or surface hoar.

Looking up the gut of Wood Camp from the base of Sousi's Ridge. There's several storms worth of snow covering the debris.
