Snowmobile avalanches

2-3-07 & 2-4-07

Here is a snowmobiler that was able to ride off of this moving avalanche. This person is exteremely lucky not to have been thrown from the machine while doing this. This was 2 miles east of Current Creek peak in the Western Uintas.
This avalanche is similar in size to one that killed a teen age male a few weeks ago. Photos: Ron Peterson.
This photo shows someone who wasn't so lucky but still lived to tell the tale. It doesn't get much closer to death then this. Here is their sled still stuck in the debris from a slide they triggered in the Hardscrabble drainage near Grandview Peak.
This was a sizeable slide. The people who triggered this did not report it to the Utah Avalanche Center. If you trigger avalanches in the backcountry it is very important that you report them to the Avalanche Center. This is very valuble information for other backcountry users and could be enough to save someones life. Photos, Ryan Carlson.
